Fair Trade Organic Coffee Beans
At Beansmith, Fair Trade is more than a stamp of approval. Fair trade is about making delibarate choices to care about and act on more than a low price. Fair trade begs us to ask questions: Who made or grew this coffee? Who or what was affected by the process of producing our coffee?
Have you thought that your choice of coffee could have drastic effects on the environment, or on the economic and social justice systems of this world?
Fair trade coffee is coffee which is purchased directly from the growers for a higher price than standard coffee. The purpose of fair trade is to promote healthier working conditions and greater economic incentive for producers. Coffee farmers producing fair trade certified coffee are required to be part of a co-op with other local growers. The co-ops determine how the premiums from fair trade coffee will be spent. Growers are guaranteed a minimum price for the coffee, and if market prices exceed the minimum, they receive a per pound premium.
An organic coffee bean is a coffee that has been grown according to organic farming standards and techniques, without the use of artificial fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides
